The Polish national project related to the Copernicus (former GMES) Initial Operations (GIO) Land Monitoring (Pan-European component) comprises the verification and enhancement of the 5 HR layers, revision of CORINE Land Cover CLC2006, production of CLC-Change2006-2012, and CLC2012 datasets, as well as dissemination activities. The national project was carried out by the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, which acts as National Reference Center (NRC) in Poland, nominated by the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection in Poland as NFP. The national project was based on the ‘Terms of reference and template for GMES Initial Operations (GIO) Land Monitoring 2011–2013 in the framework of regulation (EU) No 911/2010-Pan-EU component’, template of the ‘Grant agreement on GMES Initial Operations (GIO) Land Monitoring 2011–2013 in the framework of regulation (EU) No 911/2010-Pan-EU component’, ‘CLC2012 Addendum to CLC2006 Technical Guidelines’ and ‘CLC2006 Technical Guidelines’, as well as ‘Guidelines for verification of HR layers produced under GMES initial operations (GIO) Land monitoring 2011– 2013’ and ‘Guidelines for enhancement of HR layers produced under GMES Initial Operations (GIO) Land monitoring 2011–2013’ provided by the European Environment Agency (EEA).

The correction of CORINE Land Cover 2006 database for Poland has been performed before mapping the land cover changes. The systematic and random mistakes for example wrong code, geometry, discovered during change mapping were corrected . All identified errors in the CLC2006 database were corrected by interpreters and automatically saved by the InterChange in the CLC2006revised database - separately for each working unit. Steps to create the seamless CLC2006revised database were as follows: - All working units were joined into one seamless database by using merge and dissolve tools from Esri ArcTollbox; - Border errors between working units were corrected; - All data controls were done (ranges of attributes, size of polygons less than 25 ha, width of polygons less than 100 m) using ArcGIS software and ArcInfo Workstation; - Topological correctness were checked; - The CLC2006revised database was created in accordance with the specifications CLC2006_technical_guidelines.doc and Addendum_2012_to technical guidlines_13112012.doc.
