PhD Eng. Maria Budzynska

PhD Eng. Maria Budzynska – M.Sc. degree in land reclamation and environmental engineering from University of Agriculture in Warsaw in 1976. PhD degree in 2000 after presenting the thesis on the method of microwave satellite data for soil moisture assessment. Joined the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Centre in 1976. Research on land use classification, environmental changes due to anthropogenic and industrial impact, grassland management and farming, soil moisture assessment, carbon balance and climate change assessment, crop yield assessment – using remote sensing techniques. Participated in national and international projects including EU and ESA projects, on application of optical and radar satellite data for soil moisture estimates, drought detection and monitoring, crop growing condition assessment, crop yield and production forecasting, carbon balance estimates under different biomass and soil moisture. Author and co-author of numerous publications in Polish and international scientific journals, reviewed proceedings, and monographs chapters. EU expert in FP6 Space and Astronautics. Reviewer of research papers for International Journal of Remote Sensing, Remote Sensing of Environment, Advances in Space Research and IEEE IGARSS.
