The Geodesy and Geodynamics Center team is prepared to perform gravimetric work both in Poland and across Europe. The team has four LaCoste&Romberg model G gravimeters and an A10 absolute field gravimeter at its disposal. The instruments enable the team to perform a wide range of gravimetric work, such as:
- establishment, maintenance, and modernization of national gravimetric networks
- establishment of local (small-scale) gravimetric networks for scientific research, geological, industrial, or engineering purposes
- determination of the vertical gradient of gravitational acceleration
- measurement of terrestrial tides
- implementation of local and regional comparative campaigns of absolute gravimeters at the Borowa Góra Geodetic and Geophysical Observatory.
A10 absolute gravimeter
The Department of Geodesy and Geodynamics of the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography has a modern Micro-g Lacoste A10 absolute gravimeter, serial number 20. The A10-020 gravimeter is suitable for both laboratory research and field measurements. At IGiK, the gravimeter is used in laboratory research conducted at the Borowa Góra Geodetic and Geophysical Observatory and in field measurements at points of the national gravimetric network.
The A10-020 gravimeter is an instrument that allows the absolute value of gravitational acceleration to be measured; it works on the principle of direct measurement of acceleration in free fall. The device is equipped with a very high-quality laser interferometer and its own atomic frequency standard. These are used for precise, simultaneous measurement of time and position of an element undergoing free fall in a vacuum chamber.
The accuracy of the A10 gravimeter, as specified by the manufacturer, is 10 μGal, and the precision of measurement is approximately 1 μGal. The gravimeter can operate anywhere in the world (in terms of the range of variation of g) and in a wide range of ambient temperatures (from –15°C to +40°C).
The IGiK team has the required experience and is prepared to perform gravity acceleration measurements both in Poland and abroad.
