A new article by staff from the Centre for Applied Geomatics!

An article entitled “Spatio-Functional Pattern of a Small City: A Cross-Sectional Study of Brzeziny, Central Poland” has been published in the journal MDPI Land. It was co-authored by staff from the Centre for Applied Geomatics: Sebastian Florczyk, MSc, and Dr Anna Markowska.

The article focuses on an analysis of the functional and spatial structure of the town of Brzeziny, located in the Łódź Metropolitan Area. The analysis was based on cadastral data, field surveys and topographic data available in the BDOT10k Topographic Objects Database and OpenStreetMap. The research utilised a method for identifying dominant structural elements, developed by K. Doi, which enabled the functional and spatial zones of Brzeziny to be defined. The article demonstrates that Brzeziny, despite fulfilling urban functions, retains the characteristics of a small town with a high proportion of open and agricultural land.
