The Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (IGiK) participated in the international CERIS Joint Demonstration Event, held on 1–3 September 2025 in Turku (Finland) and co-organised by the European Commission, the University of Turku, Turku University of Applied Sciences, and the Finnish Border Guard. The event brought together representatives of the European Border and Coast Guard (EBCG), including national border authorities and Frontex. Its main objective was to showcase and demonstrate innovative border surveillance solutions developed under EU-funded research and innovation programmes.
During the event, IGiK presented the solution “IDT-EU – Integrated Digital Twin for the EU Borders”, developed within the Frontex competition “Prize Contest on Copernicus Border Surveillance Service Evolution”. The project focuses on advanced methods for enhancing border surveillance through the use of geospatial data and remote sensing technologies.
In addition, the Institute, together with its Technology Partners, organised a panel discussion on the practical implementation of the developed solution, with a particular emphasis on its integration with unmanned robotic platforms supporting monitoring and patrolling activities. The panel attracted significant interest from participants, and the exchange of experiences made it possible to identify potential operational scenarios and directions for further technological development.
IGiK’s participation in the event was an important opportunity to present the Institute’s expertise in innovative geospatial systems for border security and management, as well as to strengthen cooperation with European partners and institutions responsible for capability development within the European Border and Coast Guard.
