On 6–7 November 2025, a joint meeting of the EIONET network’s thematic groups TG Copernicus Land and EG Land Systems was held at the headquarters of the European Environment Agency (EEA) in Copenhagen. The Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (IGiK) was represented by Dr Anna Markowska, Poland’s EIONET delegate for Land Cover, project manager for the implementation of the Copernicus Land Cover service, including the production of Corine Land Cover 2024.
The objectives of the meeting were to facilitate dialogue between the Eionet Land Systems group and the thematic group TG Copernicus Land in order to identify and explore common areas of interest, to exchange knowledge on the information needs of EU policies, and to discuss technical challenges related to monitoring and reporting on land-use policies.
The meeting also marked the 35th anniversary of the Corine Land Cover project, in which Poland has participated since the first edition (1990). The essence of the CORINE Land Cover (CLC) programme is to provide up-to-date information on land cover for the whole of Europe on a regular cycle and to show the changes occurring between subsequent cycles. Both the level of detail and the thematic scope of the collected data have been tailored primarily to the needs of the European Union. The body responsible for coordinating CLC projects at the European level (since CLC2000) is the EEA. In Poland, CORINE data are made available by the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (GIOŚ) and are produced by the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography.
