Gravimetric quantum meeting in Hannover

From January 22nd to 26th, 2024, two employees of the Centre of Geodesy and Geodynamics of Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (IGiK), Dr. Eng. Przemysław Dykowski and Dr. Marcin Sękowski, participated in the first comparison campaign of quantum absolute gravimeters organized at Leibniz University in Hanover (LUH).

In addition to the IGiK team (AQG-B07 gravimeter), other teams participating in the measurements from the LNE-SYRTE, Observatoire de Paris - Universit ́e PSL, CNRS, Sorbonne Universit ́e, France (AQG-B01), the German Research Center for Geosciences in Potsdam (AQG-B02), the Leibniz Institute of Applied Geophysics in Hanover (AQG-B09), and the German Federal Agency for Geodesy and Cartography in Leipzig (AQG-B10). The measurement activities lasted a total of 5 days and included a series of test measurements aimed at deepening the knowledge of the functioning of AQG gravimeters produced by Exail.

During this week, a AQG operator workshop was also held, attended by 31 scientists representing 15 institutions from 7 countries, including a significant representation from Exail. Participants represented 9 out of the 13 AQG gravimeters currently in operation worldwide.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for the exchange of experiences related to measurement practices and the reliability of obtained results.

The meeting was sponsored as part of the TerraQ project – Relativistic and Quantum-based Geodesy project (https://www.terraq.uni-hannover.de/en/ )), conducted by LUH and organized by GFZ in Potsdam.
