Relative gravity campaign within the BalMarGrav project (Poland), October 9-13, 2023
From October 9 to 13, 2023, employees of the Center of Geodesy and Geodynamics IGiK and the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute conducted gravimetric measurements on the Polish coast within the framework of the BalMarGrav project (Interreg Baltic Sea Region), linking historical survey reference points in ports to the modern gravimetric network.
During the campaign, they made relative measurements in six harbours connecting points: Darłówko, Ustka, Łeba, Władysławowo, Hel and Gdańsk with reference to points in Redzikowo, Lębork, Jastrzębia Góra and Chwaszczyno, which are part of the Polish gravimetric network. Previously, a measurements was also made in the port of Świnoujście. Gravimetric measurements were made synchronously with two LaCoste & Romberg relative gravimeters. Gravity determination errors of the order of 5 microGals (5·10-8 ms-2) were obtained.
The purpose of campaign was to reconstruct the reference values of gravity at the harbours associated with marine gravimetric measurements carried out along the Polish coast in 1976-1981. This will allow for recalculation of the historical marine gravity measurements to a new datum and incorporation them into Polish and neighbouring countries databases. Harbours officers and local residents shared their memories and thus helped to reconstruct the locations of points after almost half a century, proving invaluable support during the measurements. In addition to the gravimetric measurements, topographic descriptions of the network points were updated, also photo documentation, measurements of the height of the water level, and determination of coordinates in the GRS80 ellipsoid system and heights based on the high-precision DTM model were made.
The project is co-financed by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science within the framework of the programme entitled Co-financed International Projects - Contract No. 5271/Interreg VI B BSR 2021-2027/2023/2 for the execution of the co-financed international project
